Eragon by Christopher Paolini is a book that delves deep into the mystical world of dragons, elves, and tyrants. The story follows Eragon, an orphan living with his uncle, after he finds a mysterious stone that he laters discovers is a dragon egg. After it hatches, the dragon, which Eragon names Sephira, immediately imprints onto Eragon, sending him into a war between the Dragon Riders and the tyrant king, Galbatorix. The beginning of this story was fascinating with the in-depth description of the Dragon Riders and the threats they face. However, after the first half of the novel, things do start to drag a little. More politics come into play and the book occasionally feels more like an essay than a novel. While the beginning of the book is a great start to the adventure, the end feels cramped with unnecessary details that constantly are forgotten due to the length between the times they’re mentioned. Overall, I would give this book 3 stars due to its impressive first half, however be prepared for a very long read.
