Avery Kylie Grambs is an ordinary teenage girl, who struggles with finances. She has one plan: get a scholarship and attend college to major in science. But her whole life turns around when she inherits billions from Tobias Hawthorne, a man who Avery has never heard of before. As Avery is granted the house and various prospects, she is met with the four grandsons of Tobias Hawthorne, who were expecting to inherit billions of dollars when their grandfather died. In order to receive the money, Avery must move into the Hawthorne Mansion, which is filled with riddles, codes, and more. As Avery desperately tries to figure out why she inherited billions from someone who was essentially a stranger, she uncovers various secrets, such as girl who died in the mansion, the various Hawthorne women coming after Avery in the court, and the whole situation with the Hawthorne grandsons. As Avery begins to find answers, she realizes that she may be in more danger than expected.

I don’t get the hype with this book. This was actually terrible and the only question that I was asking was “is this book almost done?”. The interactions between Avery and Jameson were just cringey in my opinion. While the characters were certainly… unique… it is hard to believe that you would find these people unless you were written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. The plot was okay, but it's just the “romance” that left me feeling icky, if you can even call it romance. All the love interests had no redeeming qualities and Avery herself was incredibly annoying. During that murder attempt, I am not ashamed to say that I sort of wish that the alleged “murderer” had gone through with it. Some of the other characters that are introduced just get waved off later and Avery gets barely any scenes with her sister, who she claims she’s the closest to. And what kind of name is “Jameson”? And don’t even get me started on the name “Nash”. I can tell that the author just randomly went on google and searched “name generator” because these names were even worse than the plot. Hopefully the rest of the series makes up for the mess that this book was.
