The Silent Patient is a psychological thriller novel that portrays the character Alicia Berenson’s story. Alicia Berenson, a famous painter, killed her loving husband one fateful night, and no one knows why. Alicia and her husband had a loving relationship, and no one saw it coming. On top of that, Alicia then decided to go completely mute, refusing to talk to anyone, nor defend her case at court. She then was institutionalized at a mental hospital, to undergo further study as to why she killed her husband. The novel follows psychotherapist Theo Faber, as he tries to unravel Alicia’s story and uncover the growing mystery.

Overall, this novel was very interesting! I usually do not read psychological mysteries and suspense novels, but I couldn’t put this one down. The author scatters in diary entries from Alicia, from the days leading up to the murder, to add to the growing suspense. The plot seemed a little predictable at times, but the plot twists were what really drew me in. There were many twists and turns in this book that I did not expect. Overall, this book was definitely a 10/10. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves suspense, mystery, and thriller novels. It was definitely a dark book with some heavy themes portrayed, but I really enjoyed it, nonetheless.
