Storm Front by Jim Butcher is the first book in The Dresden Files series, introducing Harry Dresden, a wizard and private investigator in modern-day Chicago. Harry is hired to solve two cases: finding a missing husband dabbling in dark magic and investigating a brutal double murder seemingly caused by black magic. As he navigates a world where magic exists alongside mundane life, Harry faces deadly threats from magical and non-magical foes alike. His investigation uncovers a sinister conspiracy that puts his life at risk, forcing him to use all his knowledge and magical prowess to survive and uncover the truth.
Storm Front by Jim Butcher had me hooked right from the start. The most compelling aspect for me was Harry Dresden himself. He's a unique, unlucky wizard with a sarcastic sense of humor and a deep sense of justice, which makes him incredibly relatable and easy to root for. I was somewhat disappointed with the pacing as I believed it focused too much on the magical background and information rather than the cases themselves. I'd recommend Storm Front to anyone who loves a good fantasy alongside a detective story. If you enjoy characters with depth and a storyline that mixes magic with a gritty, real-world setting, this book is for you. It's perfect for fans of mystery, fantasy, and supernatural elements. I give this book a four out of five.
