The Scarlet Veil is a novel written by Shelby Mahurin, which follows the character of Célie Tremblay. Célie has always been known as the obedient good girl in her kingdom. She surprises the entire kingdom when she refuses to follow the tradition of being the first huntswoman with an iron fist. But Célie has been dealing with the nightmares of her own past. Though her friends try to protect her from the trauma and horror from her past, Célie keeps hearing mysterious whispers. Alongside these new whispers, new evil is arising in the kingdom–murders happening left and right. The story follows Célie as she tries to uncover the growing mystery in her kingdom, while trying to escape her own horrors.

This book was interesting and full of tension and mystery. The writing enraptured me and I really enjoyed the story telling. It helped me understand the world and the plot more. Everything was written with detail, and I also really loved the main character, Célie. The only thing that I disliked about this novel was the pacing of the story. It was kind of slow, and often got boring. The romance was also kind of slow and non-existent, but I’m assuming it’ll pick up in the next novel in the series. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery, fantasy, and a slow burn enemies-to-lovers romance trope.
