The Selection is the first book in Kiera Cass's young adult dystopian romance series. Set in a future post-apocalyptic America, now called Illéa. The story is about America Singer, a teenage girl from a lower caste who is chosen to compete in a competition to win the heart of Prince Maxon and become the next queen. However, society is rigidly divided into castes, and citizens have little choice in their futures. America is strong-willed, compassionate, and refuses to conform to the expectations placed upon her. Her struggle between her pre-existing love for Aspen, a boy from her hometown, and her growing feelings for Prince Maxon creates tension. I really loved this book because of the romance and the frequent plot twists that made me want to read more. I found the main character very interesting because she wasn’t like everyone else. She was different and that made the book even more interesting. The book hooks readers with its central love triangle and interesting plot. Overall, The Selection is an entertaining, book in the YA dystopian genre. I would recommend this to readers who enjoy romance with and don't mind a few familiar tropes.
