Warrior Girl Unearthed is an Indigenous historical fiction. It tells the story of Perry Firekeeper-Birch, who finds herself taking an interest in the reunification of native artifacts to their respective tribes. As the number of missing Indigenous women rises on her reservation, Perry hatches a plan to return the human remains of a warrior girl to her tribe.

The book was fascinating, especially in how the author discusses important issues related to Indigenous artifact theft. My only complaint is how different the second half of the book is from the rest. It feels more like a thriller novel and latches on to a side plot that was significantly less prominent in the first part of the book. It leaned more heavily on situations that felt more action-packed and mysterious compared to the beginning, which leaned on the tamer side. However, this didn’t completely take away from my enjoyment of the book, and I would still recommend it to anyone looking to gain knowledge on Indigenous artifact reunification.
