At a young age, Effe Sayre always had nightmares of the cruel Fairy King from her favorite book Angharad. Now as an aspiring architect, she gets the opportunity to redesign the manor of the book’s author, Myrddin. As she gets to the manor she meets a stodgy young literature scholar determined to expose Myrddin as a fraud. The two rivals piece together clues about Myrddin’s legacy and find something truly dark and unexpected.
The main problem I found in this book, was the odd plot. For starters, it's set in the past but in a different world. As well, when I first was reading the synopsis, I thought it was random to have a Fairy King and architect in the same sentence. This made it very difficult to get through the first hundred pages as I was confused most of the time.
Although there were some problems in the book, the mystery, cozy, and gothic vibes, made up for everything. This is the type of book that makes you want to make hot chocolate and cuddle up in a corner with a blanket over you. After getting halfway through, I was not able to set the book down. Each chapter kept you asking questions and made you rethink what you already knew.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery, fae, uneasy vibes, and if you loved the Spiderwick Chronicles as a kid. Also if you do end up getting this book, I recommend reading it in the fall or at night!
