Avery Grambs is a normal teenager who is laser-focused on finishing high school, getting a scholarship, and going far, far away from home. When Texas billionaire Tobias Hawthorne dies, Avery is summoned to his will reading where she learns that nearly his entire fortune has been left to her. In order to inherit the fortune, though, Avery must live in Tobias’s giant mansion, Hawthorne House, with four Hawthorne grandsons that give her a run for her money. Nash, Grayson, Jameson, and Xander furiously search for answers on why their grandfather would give away his fortune to a stranger. In addition, the house is covered in riddles, codes, passages, and secrets that the whole family races to solve. Avery gets caught up in a series of lies, danger, family secrets, and conspiracies as she struggles to survive in a brand new world.

As a kid, I always loved reading mysteries such as The Westing Game, and this book brought me right back to that stage of my life. I adored the thrill of discovering the secrets hidden throughout the Hawthorne House as the story unfolded. However, I didn’t particularly love the characters of Jameson and Grayson, who often appeared as very dull and boring characters. Despite this, though, I enjoyed the book overall.
