Wonder is a realistic fiction novel by R.J. Palacio. August, or Auggie, is a young boy who was born with facial abnormalities. Auggie has been homeschooled entire life but is going to school as he starts a new chapter of life that is middle school. He struggles with bullying but also forms strong friendships, and readers follow the lives of August and those around him.
I absolutely love this book. I liked how Palacio writes from multiple perspectives, such as Auggie, his sister Via, and his friends Jack and Summer. It was interesting to see all of their experiences and how they pieced together. I especially loved reading from Auggie’s perspective because Palacio’s writing is very relatable and I could see life from Auggie’s eyes. This was such a heartwarming read and emphasizes the importance of teaching kids about bullying and its impact. This book demonstrates how a little kindness can go a long way. I would definitely recommend this book to all. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
