Twisted Love by Ana Huang is the first novel in the interconnected standalones series, The Twisted Series. This first book follows Ava Chen, one of the four girl best friends that the four books are based on. Ava’s older brother, Josh, is going on a mission trip of sorts to care for people who need medical care in South America due to his medical education. Josh wants his little sister to be protected, so asks his best friend Alex Volkov to watch out for her. Alex takes things a bit literally and moves right next door to Ava. Ava and Alex grow surprisingly close, considering Alex is notorious for being closed off, cruel, and cold. He also is an extremely powerful CEO with quite a few enemies. Ava and Alex must navigate through issues in their families more complicated than they thought together, with shocking twists that leave you wondering what will happen next.
I gave this book 3 stars because while I like it, it is not my favorite book in the series. Ava is a great character, but I wish we got to see a bit more strength from her and not as much reliance on other characters. Alex is your typical moody, protective, love interest, so he’s fun to read about, but he isn’t exactly as unique as some of the other characters in these books. Finally, I was eventually happy with the end, but a bit unsatisfied at how rushed it felt. Overall a great book and a fun introduction to the series.
