The Lamplighter by Crystal J. Bell is a fiction fantasy book and is a very good read. The main character Temperance takes on the job of a lamplighter, lighting the way in the fog, after her father dies to honor his memory. She financially supports her sisters and mother and takes on the burden of work herself. As she works as a lamplighter, mysterious things start to happen when the fog rolls in. She gets suspicious of her dad's warning to stay away from a certain person. She realizes that things in Warbler are much more complicated than they seem. This book takes you on a journey with Temperance as she learns that her shoulders cannot hold such a heavy burden.

This is an excellent book with many twists and turns and is not a read for the weak hearted. This book perfectly portrays the struggles of being a woman in the 19th century. In my opinion I really liked the main character because she struggles to not be a burden and help her family. Her journey of believing in herself and others was beautifully written. Although this is an amazing book I was disappointed at the book's end because it felt like there was still more to the story that needed to be expanded on. If I could change anything in this book I would change the ending other than that, this is a phenomenal book.
