Dawn of the Dead: Dawn of the Iconic Status
Dawn of the Dead is one of the best horror films ever made. While this movie is gruesome, violent, and at some times just plain disgusting it is also iconic, funny, and crafted well. Art is subjective and in a way this movie is art, just set in a more darker tone. It’s about a plague that takes over the nation causing the recently dead to rise from their graves with a hunger for living flesh.
Watching this movie in a post-COVID world makes things even more funny and terrifying because what if this was real? If you look beyond the blood and guts, you can see the natural imagery the director wants to impact with this media creating visual images that leave you wanting more and looking over your shoulder because of how realistic the conversations and characters feel. This movie just makes horror into something bigger, something that feels real while also being completely absurd at the same time. I would recommend this movie to fans of horror everywhere because it is a classic. I give it a total of 4 out of 5 stars being the only reason it lost a star because of the runtime being a bit long but that runtime did skillfully build a world and movie that will ring out a cult following every October.
