After a plane crash leaves a group of adolescent boys stranded on a deserted island, they must figure out how to survive. Their initial methods are civilized and orderly, but as the struggle for power takes over, a man’s darkest parts are revealed. With the added obstacles of a terrifying monster and lost hope, will the boys survive?
This book’s premise is incredibly interesting. It tests humanity’s morals and shows us how far a person will go for survival. While this concept is compelling, the book was very slow at times. With many pages dedicated to worldbuilding and extreme detail, this book tested my patience. However, if you’re into detail, you’ll probably like this book! It can be quite bleak at times, but thought-provoking as well. If you’re looking for an interesting classic that may require some rereading, this book is for you!
