A Winter's Promise depicts a fantasy world in which the world has divided into floating islands where magical powers have developed from the mysterious family spirits that reside on the arks. The main character, Ophelia, must leave her home on Anima to fulfill an arranged marriage with the phlegmatic Thorn. However before the wedding day she must survive the winter in the harsh society of the pole, filled with deception, intrigue and betrayal where nothing is as it seems. As she struggles to adjust to harsh society she gradually learns that she has become imprisoned in a much deeper web of deception, power, and manipulation. She is in a deadly fight to maintain control over her own life and avoid losing herself to the depraved society of the pole.
A Winter’s Promise is well written and intriguing, as well as full of plot twists and an engaging narrative. It is a perfect example of how to remain true to yourself despite harsh circumstances and is one of my new favorites. I would recommend this to anyone who loves drama, fantasy, and mystery!
