Six of Crows, by Leigh Bardugo, is one of the few “BookTok” books that I have truly enjoyed, let alone liked it enough for it to join the scant amount of books that, on a rating scale of five stars, would be rated above it. In essence, Six of Crows is a story about six broken people finding a family. Kaz Brekker, Inej Ghafa, Matthias Helver, Nina Zenik, Jesper Fahey, and Wylan have all found their way into the Barrel of Ketterdam through various less than ideal situations. But through a heist that promises money that could help them each achieve their dreams, no matter how small, we are provided with a wildly engaging story that manages to be both heartwarming and darkly witty at times. Creating one of my absolute favorite books of all time, with complex, fleshed out characters whose arcs are both beautiful and often heart wrenchingly sad. Not only does this book manage to be funny, but it is also woven with emotional moments. Darker moments, a full spectrum of emotions that only work in this story’s favor. And honestly, I would recommend it to any and everyone. It’s a beautiful story, one that provides a full cast of characters that you would want to root for till the end of time and a spectacular fantasy world written by a very talented author. The dialogue manages to strike the perfect chord of darkness and sometimes unexpected wit that only enriches this story, and the plot is engaging in every meaning of the word.
