Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down takes Greg Heffley’s imagination to new levels as he tries to prove he’s meant for fame. Inspired by his mom’s belief that he should be more creative, Greg sets out to make a movie—hoping it’ll launch him to stardom. However, his big plans don’t quite work out, leading to one hilarious failure after another. From a Halloween candy scheme gone wrong to an unforgettable school band performance, Greg’s usual mix of bad luck and questionable decisions make for a wildly entertaining read.
As always, Kinney blends humor and relatable childhood experiences perfectly, making Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Double Down a fantastic addition to the series that will have readers laughing the whole way through. I found this book especially funny because Greg’s ridiculous confidence in becoming famous always backfires in the best way possible. Five out of five stars.
