A young woman, during a moment of desperation, makes a deal with the devil. Eternal life, but at a cost she didn’t yet know. When it’s done and she realizes she’s been cursed to be completely forgotten by everyone she meets the moment she leaves their eye sight, she is forced to live a solitary life over centuries.
To be honest, I’ve read V.E. Schwab before and I find her work either hits or misses. This was most definitely a hit. Incredible storytelling and descriptions with a heartbreaking story and fascinating characters. I imagine a high level of thought and detail must have been put into this book. Also, I regularly dislike books that jump around in time, but I found myself actually looking forward to the flashback sequences. I also adored the villain, a devilish character with unclear morals and a fascination for the main character. I think the entire story just ties itself together so beautifully. A must read, for fans of fantasy, romance, historical fiction or just about anything.
