Nothing can stop eleven-year-old Katie from living her best life; nothing at all! At least, that’s the case until she goes off to overnight camp with her best friend and she starts getting thoughts that tell her she has to tuck in her sheet just right or else she’ll fall off her bed in the middle of the night. They tell her that if she says the word ‘tongue’ constantly then she won’t have to get tongue surgery. They tell her so many things, that fast forward a few months, these thoughts are all she can think about. She later learns that OCD is the cause of her ‘buzzing thoughts’, but until she does, Katie starts to wonder: ‘Is something wrong with me?’

I liked Growing Pangs- like, I really, really, REALLY liked Growing Pangs. It’s a really good graphic novel that takes a lot of concepts (like growing up, school, friends, and OCD) and manages to fit them all into one book, which I think is really, really cool! And as someone who actually has OCD, I can verify that the OCD described in Growing Pangs is very accurate. I would recommend this graphic novel to anyone who likes graphic novels, especially people who have OCD because this book will make you realize that you’re not alone on your journey with OCD! :)
