Rent is a rock musical about New York City struggles in the 90s with the rise of AIDS. It is a musical written by Jonathan Larson and has many awards. It started off Broadway, made its way to Broadway, and now there is the movie adaptation. Unfortunately, Jonathan Larson passed away before he was able to see its success. This musical is all about love, acceptance, bohemia, drugs, pride, friends and loyalty. It follows the story of seven friends consisting of a lesbian couple, a gay couple, a heterosexual couple and a single guy. It shows how different love can be and the bond that friends can really have. But when a major death happens in their lives, will their friendship and relationships survive? The uniqueness of the rock music brings many great ballads and songs. This musical changed the way Broadway can be seen and opened up a new age of Broadway music. I would give this musical five stars out of five because the music and storyline are great, plus the actors did a great job, so I wouldn't change a thing.
