Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll revolves around Alice, a young girl with an impressive imagination, as she travels through a land filled with impossibilities in search of a way back home. She encounters many characters along the way, such as the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat, and the Queen of Hearts. Many of the characters act as obstacles as she tries to find her way back home but a few help to guide her through her adventure. Alice enters this world by accident, her curiosity causing her to follow a white rabbit wearing a tailcoat down a rabbit hole, leading her into Wonderland. From there, she makes her way through a flood of her own tears, a neverending tea party, and a croquet game with the Queen of Hearts. Alice’s journey takes her to maddening and nonsensical places that only become more confusing when Alice tries to use logic to understand the things that are happening to her. Alice in Wonderland takes the reader on a wild adventure filled with unexpected events around every turn.
I enjoyed reading Alice in Wonderland because of its imaginative and unique story, as well as for its comedic undertones. It has a lot of subtle wordplay that helped to lighten up the tone of the story and made the experience much more enjoyable. The story itself can definitely be a bit confusing, especially if you try to take it too seriously, but is overall very enjoyable with memorable characters and locations. I think that the characters are what really make the story shine, with each character having their own quirks that make them stand out from each other. Even minor characters that are only brought up once have defined personalities which makes the world of Alice in Wonderland even more engaging. I would recommend this book to anybody looking for a lighthearted and mildly ridiculous read.
