Antony and Cleopatra is a play written by William Shakespeare, and is a continuation
of Mark Antony’s story from Julius Caesar, though it isn’t necessary to read the former.
However, a theme of continuation from the first play into the second play is that there is no
good or bad in the world, or rather, there is no certainly that good will always remain good. This
is perfectly reflected in Antony, an honorable man who essentially becomes weakened and
defeated because of his love for Cleopatra. In the first book, Antony is painted as a quick-
thinking, level man who is strong in reasoning and who is seen as a fit leader for Rome. All that
goes away in Antony and Cleopatra however because Antony’s character changes as he
becomes more and more rash as he falls in love with Cleopatra. I won’t say more because just
like the first book, I love this book as well and I believe that the reader should go in with the
knowledge of who Antony is a as a person to fully understand the message of this book.
