The book starts as 16-year-old Dan Crawford enters a summer program called the New Hampshire College Prep Program for gifted students. This is where he feels he can truly embrace his odd passions involving psychology and history. After Dan arrives, he soon finds out that the dorms have been moved to an old psychiatric hospital called Brookline. Interested in the dark history of the place, Dan and his new friends, Abby and Jordan, delve into Brookline's abandoned hallways and hidden rooms. As they continue to investigate the place further, they discover unsettling mysteries and secrets about the asylum. These unnerving facts tie Dan and his friends to this asylum's perturbing past. Dan must uncover the truth about Brookline before summer ends despite the progressing threats. This book compelled me because I was curious about Dan's journey to uncovering his dark family past and its relation to Brookline. This book was a horror fiction and remained creepy throughout. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys mysteries and horror stories. This book was worth reading!
