Big Nate: In a Class by Himself by Lincoln Peirce is the first book in the popular *Big Nate* series and introduces readers to Nate Wright, a confident and mischievous sixth-grader who believes he’s destined for greatness. Throughout the book, Nate is convinced that he’s going to set a school record, but things don’t go quite as planned. As Nate navigates his day—facing teachers, schoolwork, and unexpected obstacles—his hilarious and often disastrous attempts at setting this record make for an entertaining and relatable story.

Overall, I’d give this book a five out of five because of its perfect blend of humor, wit, and engaging illustrations. Nate’s larger-than-life personality, combined with his never-ending optimism despite constant setbacks, makes the story both funny and heartwarming. The book is full of comic-style illustrations that add to the humor and keep readers hooked from start to finish. Even though Nate is often a troublemaker, readers can’t help but root for him as he deals with the everyday challenges of school life.

The main thing I like about this book is Nate’s confidence and determination, even when things go wrong. His humorous outlook on life, paired with the relatable situations he finds himself in, makes Big Nate: In a Class by Himself a standout read for kids and adults alike. The book earns a solid five out of five for its laugh-out-loud moments, memorable characters, and unique combination of storytelling and comic illustrations. It’s a must-read for fans of humorous middle-grade fiction and anyone who enjoys a lighthearted, fun story.
