Big Nate Flips Out by Lincoln Peirce, the fifth book in the Big Nate series, brings a fresh twist to Nate’s usual antics when his messy habits become a big problem. After losing his best friend, Francis, over his chronic disorganization, Nate decides to make a drastic change. With the help of hypnotism, Nate becomes obsessively neat and organized—but as you’d expect, things quickly spiral out of control in hilarious ways. As Nate tries to balance his new persona with his old ways, he learns some valuable lessons about friendship and staying true to himself.

I’d give this book a five out of five for its unique storyline and laugh-out-loud humor. The concept of Nate becoming the opposite of his usual chaotic self is funny and clever, especially as it creates new challenges for him. The tension between Nate and Francis adds depth to the plot, showing how much Nate values his friendship, even if he doesn’t always show it in the best way. The way Nate’s hypnotized transformation impacts his life leads to both humor and heartwarming moments, making this one of the standout books in the series.

The main thing I like about this book is the balance between comedy and meaningful life lessons. Nate’s struggle to fix his friendship with Francis, while also dealing with his extreme new habits, makes for an engaging and entertaining story. Big Nate Flips Out earns a solid five stars for its inventive plot, relatable characters and the way it combines Nate’s usual humor with deeper themes of friendship and self-awareness. It’s a must-read for fans of the series and a great addition to Nate’s growing collection of middle-school misadventures.
