Summary: Nate has a problem, and his name is Breckenridge Puffington III. He’s a new kid at PS. 38, Nate’s school, and Principal Nichols is forcing Nate to be Breckenridge’s “buddy”. The only thing is, Breckenridge seems to be quite a nerd. He doesn’t like cartooning or sports like Nate, and instead enjoys FLOWERS. Yeah, you read that right. Flowers.

As Nate has to show his buddy around and constantly stick by his side, whether he wants to or not, PS. 38 is beginning to fall apart. Broken ceiling tiles and lockers, destroyed room, and a leaky building say it all. Yet the school’s centennial is coming up, and with that a treasure hunt that Nate so desperately wants to win with his team, beating Gina’s. But will he be able to? Will Breckenridge prove his worth or just be the weak link his team doesn’t need? On top of all of that, why can’t Nate shake the feeling that he knows this kid from somewhere?

Find all this out and more in Lincoln Pierce’s Big Nate Lives It Up!

Opinion: I found this novel to be another great addition to Lincoln Pierce’s “Big Nate” graphic novel series. It's full of funny drawings, interesting characters, and unexpected twists and turns, whether that's going head-to-head with Randy, having to baby Breckenridge, or a ceiling tile falling on his head, Big Nate has it all. This book definitely keeps readers entertained with its clever cartoons and the relatability of real life situations to Big Nate. I would recommend this book for readers aged 7-12, especially as a good starter into the world of reading if they are still used to picture books.
