Trevor Noah recounts his childhood in South Africa after and during apartheid. It focuses on his relationship with his mother and some of his most interesting life stories, which make us feel sad, happy, angry and more.
Born a Crime is a really good book which consists of a collection of life stories. We see Trevor grow and become a better person as we read along. Some stories are happy, others are sad, but Trevor always finds a way to lighten the mood and provide comedic relief. The book also highlights multiple social issues present in South Africa at the time. We feel bad for Trevor as we see all the hardships he had to go through to become the famous comedian we know. Every single story in the book was interesting and written well. It is really amusing to read about how different South Africa was at the time and how things worked there. It is almost like an historical documentation of life in South Africa and its culture with the boring monotone writing removed. Overall, I give this book a 5 out of five.
