Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 1: The Night of the Nasty Nostril Nuggets is the sixth book in Dav Pilkey’s beloved series. In this installment, George and Harold’s latest invention goes terribly wrong, transforming their school bully, Melvin, into the Bionic Booger Boy—a grotesque and powerful villain made from, you guessed it, boogers! Captain Underpants must once again leap into action to stop this slimy menace from wreaking havoc on the town.
I’d give this book a four out of five because while it’s packed with Pilkey’s trademark humor and fast-paced action, the gross-out factor is particularly high, which may not be to everyone’s taste. However, the story is as imaginative as ever, and the tension builds up nicely for the second part of the adventure. The humor is spot-on for young readers, but the over-the-top booger theme might not be as enjoyable for all.
What makes Captain Underpants and the Big, Bad Battle of the Bionic Booger Boy, Part 1 fun is the creative and absurd premise that keeps readers laughing and engaged. The illustrations, flip-o-rama pages, and George and Harold’s antics are all as entertaining as ever. Despite the heavy reliance on gross humor, it’s still a fun and exciting read that sets up the next part of the story in a great way
