Caraval by Stephanie Garber, is a fantasy book about a girl named Scarlett Dragna. Scarlett grew up on the Conquered Islands of Trisda with her sister Dontella and her father who never allowed her to leave the Island. Growing up her grandma would tell her and her sister stories of a magical game called Caraval which was created and run by a man named Legend. Scarlet and her sister always dreamed of visiting Caraval, especially Scarlett who wrote to Legend multiple times hoping to receive a response back. When her father arranges a marriage for her, she believes her dreams of visiting Caraval will never come true and writes one last letter. Her last letter receives a response with three tickets, one for her sister, her and her fiancé. When Scarlett gets to Caraval she realizes that it is much more than a game as her sister gets kidnapped, and in order to win Scarlett must find her sister before the game ends.
I gave this book a five star review because it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. There were multiple plot twists in this book which made it hard to put down. Also, Garber does a very good job of telling you about the characters' back stories without revealing too much information too fast. Garber also describes Caraval in a way that makes it seem magical and makes the setting of the book one of my favorite aspects of her writing. This book does a great job of keeping you interested. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading fantasy and romance as well as being kept on the edge of their seat.
