Holden Caulfield, a distraught and confused teen gets expelled from his school and must learn to navigate the world around him. Inside, Holden is alone and scared, believing that everyone is a “phony”. Holden journeys around New York to try and make meaningful connections with someone but fails over and over.
The Catcher in the Rye is a great novel. It’s quick to read and highlights life after the great depression. Holden’s character shows how depressing and difficult the adult world can be, especially when one is forced to grow up too soon. Although this isn’t my favorite book, it’s still a good read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys fictional history.
