Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas is a YA realistic fantasy. Meaning that it takes place in the
modern day but has fantasy elements and is led by a young adult cast. The book is led by
Yadriel- a trans boy who accidentally raises a spirit and only wants to prove himself to his family.
As the book goes along Yadriel’s relationship with the spirit he summoned grows while they try
to uncover the mysterious circumstances reloving the spirit’s death along with other members of
Yadriel’s community. I loved the way that the book included LQGTQ+ main characters and
stories but also had a mystery. It talked about their stories and struggles while in tandem solving
a mystery and finding friends.
