The City of Ember is an exciting book about two kids who live in an underground city where everything is running out. Unfortunately, lightbulbs are hard to come by and the generator that runs the city is breaking down. When Lina finds an interesting set of instructions, she and her friend Dune attempt decoding the secret message. To get out, they must turn away from everything they knew, will they find a safe haven?
I enjoyed the writing style of this book, lots of unanswered questions and funny quips. The ending of this book is kind of unsatisfying so I hope the next one in the series ties up some loose ends. I would recommend this book to middle schoolers who love mystery!
