A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas is the first book in a widely known fantasy romance series. This first novel follows Feyre, and her wishes to help her family. In an unfortunate incident with a bow and arrow, Feyre finds herself in the deadly land of the Fae, where as a human she is subject to the magic of the powerful creatures that live there. She ends up in the Spring Court, with the mysterious Lord Tamlin as her captor. As Feyre spends more time with Tamlin, she develops conflicting feelings about him. When an evil woman seeks to harm Feyre further, she must go Under the Mountain to face darker foes than she ever thought possible. The Trials there will test Feyre’s courage, resolve, and character- especially when she is forced to interact with her foreseen enemy, Rhysand of the Night Court. Feyre must fight to protect her sisters, herself, and her fellow humans.

I give this book three stars, simply because I like other books in this series and by this author better. This book is a great introduction, but that is what it feels like. A gateway to the amazingness that is the rest of this series. I like Feyre as a character, but her sisters are so so.  Elain annoys me because it seems like she is always complaining. Nesta, I don’t like at the beginning, but you grow to love her. Overall a fun way to start Sarah J. Maas books.
