The Cousins is a thriller fiction book written by Karen M. McManus, the author of One of Us is Lying. In her book, Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah are the three-Story cousins, but they lead completely different lives that are about to converge into one. Back in the day, their parents had lived on Gull Cove Island with their mother, which she owned. After they left home, however, she sent them all letters containing only the sentence, “You know what you did,” before disinheriting them. Their parents claim to know nothing about what she is talking about, which makes it enticing when all three of them receive letters inviting them, and only them, to Gull Cove Island for the summer. The opportunity is presented to them as a summer job, but they all have a hidden motive. As Milly, Aubrey, and Jonah get to know each other they are each plagued by recurrent questions-why did their grandmother disinherit their parents, and why does she want to see them now.

I really enjoyed this book and think that it has amazing writing (which is expected from Karen M. McManus), so I would definitely give this book a 5-star rating. The best part of this book is that it continuously offers plot twists-one after the other-which keeps this book exciting. One of the most prevalent thoughts I had after reading this book was probably how not everything is the way it seems. Sometimes a little snooping can be justified if it helps you bring things to light.  This book will be fun for anyone who loves a thriller or the rest of the Karen M. McManus books.  In summation, The Cousins is an exceptionally well-written thriller that will keep you on edge for its duration. Happy Reading!
