The Crucible is a fictional tragedy based on the Salem witch trials which captures the spirit of fear and hysteria perfectly. It is a play written by Arthur Miller during the the tense era of McCarthyism trying to draw a parallel between the anti-communist hunt taking place in America during the time and the witch hunt in Salem, in turn showing the dangers of hysteria.
The story is full of symbolism and explores themes that still apply to today’s society. The flow of the story is good and keeps us reading to find out what happened. The book is written in a play form and uses a mix of modern English and the historically accurate phrases to give us a taste of the language spoken during the play’s time period. I recommend this book to people who like reading Shakespeare's tragedies or Fictional Drama books. The way things turned out was expected but still interesting to read. The character dynamics and understanding the underlying message the author was trying to convey was another highlight of this book.
