This book got me out of one of my worst reading slumps I’ve ever had. Filled with faeries, the
human world, ideas of patriarchy and power, and more, this book is more than anything I
could’ve asked for or even expected. An enemies to friends to maybe lovers, admiration from
afar, all of which are some of my favorite tropes personally. The two main characters, Jude, a
human living in the Faerie world, and Carden, the youngest son to the High King of Faerie.
They’re basically out to get each other throughout the whole book, but it’s deeper than simply
hating each other. The first book of three, ending on a cliffhanger of what will happen to the two.
I’m reading the third book right now, and even that one I can’t put down, and even when I’m not
reading it, I’m constantly thinking about it. I love the relatable characters, the world building-
both human and faerie, and I personally enjoyed the idea of power politics, which is a big part of
the plot. Even if you don’t like fantasy, this one is a base level and I would recommend it to
everybody. I rated it 4/5 stars, only because I save my five stars for books that completely
change my life. I have little complaints for this one.
