Delirium by Lauren Oliver follows Lena, a soon to be eighteen year old teenage girl. In Lena’s

world love is seen as dangerous and unpredictable, it causes havoc and apparently eventually

ends in death. Love is seen as a disease. To prevent people from catching this disease

everyone must have a surgery that cures them from it when they turn eighteen. In Lena's case

she believes that love is dangerous and can't wait for her surgery so she can finally be cured

and safe. One day when Lena is on a run with her friend she runs into Alex, a boy around her

age and the two soon get “infected”. As Lena and Alex get to know each other she realizes that

she might not want to get the procedure done after all as her surgery date looms closer and

closer Lena must make a decision and she realizes that she would rather die her way then live

theres. But what can she possibly do it's her against the world, or is it?

I thought that this book was new and interesting. It was a beautiful book that showed how love is

scary but you can't be truly human without it. Love is a common phrase in everyone's dictionary

nowadays and it was nice to read about a world which completely lacked it. In my opinion this

book was a little drawn out and things mostly got interesting when we met Alex but all in all I

would give it a four out of five stars. I am excited to read the rest of the books in the trilogy.
