Despicable Me 4 is a decent movie with a messy storyline. The movie starts off introducing a new villain, Maxime Le Mal, who forces Gru and his family into hiding to protect themselves from him. The introductory plot is interesting and could have resulted in a better story had the villain been utilized more. The villain is barely present during the duration of the movie, and there is not much buildup of tension or pressure. The middle of the story consists mostly of unnecessary side stories that do not contribute much to the main storyline. Only in the climax do we see the villain pose a serious threat and manage to help drive the story. The story contains the similar charm of the other Minions movies and utilizes the Minions well with their similar comedy style in the other Minions movies. While the story lacked depth or tension, the animated scenes and side stories were decent enough to make it a decent overall experience. The movie felt like a collection of episodes joined together, but it was decent, nonetheless. I give this movie a 3.2 out of 5 and recommend it to anyone who loves the Minions movies.
