Dog Man and Cat Kid is a graphic novel by Dav Pilkey, the fourth book of the Dog Man series. George and Harold start off by saying that they were reading a classic called East of Eden. In this book, there are people planning to make a movie about Dog Man. Dog Man is in charge of guarding a famous actress in the movie. Petey escapes jail again and takes Li'l Petey. He tries to convince the kid that he is inherently evil and that it is his destiny. Petey finds out that the movie is being made about Dog Man and tries to sabotage it. Meanwhile, Dog Man has been fired from his guarding job because he keeps messing up the movie. Petey takes the opportunity to kidnap the actress, as well as take control of the evil robots from the movie set to cause a new rampage. Li'l Petey, his pal 80-HD and Dog Man try to save the actress and prevent more destruction. Will Petey succeed in ruining the movie and potentially draw Li’l Petey to the evil side? Or will good prevail?
This book was inspired by another classic, East of Eden (although the title wasn’t). I liked how Pilkey made a page at the end of the book that explained all the references to the classic and other books by the same author throughout this Dog Man book. In addition, other languages were present that they translated, sometimes in amusing ways. This book had many entertaining parts, but also had one character face an identity crisis about who he really is, adding to the storyline.
