Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild, is the sixth graphic novel of the Dog Man series. George and Harold are reading a classic called The Call of the Wild. The book starts out with all the cops being invited to watch the Dog Man movie. However, Dog Man eats the tickets which makes everyone angry. One morning, Dog Man wakes up to find that someone framed him for robbing a bank! He is sent to a dog jail in the mountains where he is forced to do the cruel Warden’s bidding. His friends want to rescue him. The actress Yolay, Sarah and Zuzu look for the real robber, while Chief and 80-HD rescue Dog Man from the jail. Meanwhile, Li’l Petey tries to save his father from falling evil again. Dog Man and his fellow dog inmates are rescued, and they go to watch the Dog Man movie. However, Yolay, Sarah and Zuzu chase the real robber right into the theater, carrying a living spray. Chaos breaks loose in the movie theater, with an evil clay actor coming to life. Who is this wicked Dog Man impostor, and will the good guys be able to defeat them?
This book had an excellent plot, and it created a new spin with Dog Man going to jail. A previous villain reappears, and Petey seems to become a good guy again, which is unusual. In addition, the book is once again named after a classic, affirming the trend that future Dog Man books will likely be named after a classic, too. There weren’t as many references to literature throughout the book as in previous ones. However, it still was interesting and extremely amusing. For example, I liked the method Li’l Petey used to put out a fire at one point.
