Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas by Dav Pileky is a graphic novel in the Dog Man series. George and Harold are reading the book Lord of the Flies. In this book, Petey escapes jail again and takes Li’l Petey from Dog Man. He explains to Li’l Petey that he had made some enemies in his childhood. To get revenge, they were coming for Li’l Petey, so he needed to escape town. Instead his enemies, the "Fleas", build a big robot and kidnap Chief, Sarah and Zuzu. Li’l Petey wants to help them and Petey agrees to, turning good after being evil for so long. Dog Man and 80-HD also come to help defeat the Fleas. Will the Fleas get their revenge? Or will the new Dog Man-Petey alliance prevail?
I really liked how, just like the last book, Pilkey included a page at the end to explain all the references to Lord of the Flies. In addition, there were also dialogues inspired by famous authors of books and poetry. The first few books were entirely funny with barely any serious parts, but in this book there were a few emotional conversations. For example, Petey and Li’l Petey have a sincere discussion, adding to the plot for future books. They even hinted that Petey may stay good.
