Dogman Unleased is a graphic novel by Dav Pilkey, the second book of the Dogman series. In this book, it is Chief’s birthday so the cops have a birthday party and gift him “memory dots” and a pet fish. At his house, Chief accidentally causes the drops to fall on the fish, making it super intelligent and allowing it to do things like telekinesis. Later, there is a robbery at the pet store, and everyone thinks that it is Petey. Petey is actually in jail, and he gets angry that someone is impersonating him, so he escapes by drawing a cutout off himself and putting it under a plant, making it look like he got crushed, and then escaping when the police are distracted. The doctors come and put a revival potion onto the cardboard figure, who comes to life but turns out to be evil and escapes. Meanwhile, the real Petey sets a trap for the mysterious robber. Dogman comes, and after some odd events occur, Petey voluntarily goes back to jail. Then, Flat Petey starts fighting Dogman, who manages to escape. Suddenly, the Mysterious Stranger appears, starting a fight with Flat Petey and Dogman. Who is this hooded figure? Will either Flat Petey or the figure prevail, or will Dogman be victorious?
Like the first book, this book was very humorous. I liked how some of the drawings added extra details to the story like people exchanging awkward glances. Just like in book one, there were many things that didn’t make sense, like how a spray potion is supposed to wear off when a user starts giggling, but this just added to my laughter. There is a lot of suspense, especially when the reader finds out who the mysterious person is, hooking the reader. Because of all this, I give this book a five out of five.
