Educated is a memoir written by Tara Westover. Westover grew up in rural Idaho in a survivalist family. Her father was very strict; he did not allow Tara and her siblings to receive formal education and forced them to stay away from the healthcare system because he believed the government was trying to steer them away from God. When Tara was 17, she decided to attend college at BYU, which marked the beginning of her educational journey. In her memoir, Tara Westover discusses how her experiences with her family and outside world shaped her into who she is today and allowed her to discover her true identity.

I absolutely loved reading this memoir. Westover’s writing is so beautiful, and she pieces together events of her life so seamlessly. Readers are able to understand how multiple events allowed Tara to have a realization as she meaningfully connects her life events. This memoir includes themes of self-discovery and perseverance. Westover’s memoir was truly eye-opening, and I would recommend this book to all. I give this book a 5 out of 5 stars.
