Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is a captivating novel that I’m sure many people are familiar with. The story revolves around Maddy, a teenager with a rare disease that forces her to live in isolation, and her budding relationship with Olly, the boy next door. Despite her condition, Maddy's desire to experience life and love sets off a series of events that change her world forever.
The themes of love, self-discovery, and the risks that they take for happiness are deeply explored, which is why I enjoyed this book and felt it to be different to other books I’ve read. Even though the story hinted at a twist, the revelation was impactful and added depth to the narrative. The ending, while a bit rushed, still provided a satisfying conclusion to Maddy's journey. If you enjoy heartfelt, emotional stories with a unique situation and twist, this is the book for you. I prefer this story to some other contemporary young adult novels because of its interesting premise and the engaging relationship between Maddy and Olly. The main thing I like about this book is the unique perspective of a girl who has never been able to leave her house and how she views the world. The characters are well-developed, and the inclusion of illustrations and unique narrative formats adds a special touch. I also like how the story just never gets boring or slows down, but rather it’s always moving forward and keeping things interesting. Overall, this book is a sure 4 out of 5 due to its compelling story, emotional depth, and well-crafted characters. I absolutely love it and highly recommend that you read it to experience the unique and heartwarming journey of a girl who has never been outside.
