The Fault in Our Stars, by John Green, is a dramatic teenage-romance book that spawned several
others in the genre.
The Fault in Our Stars tells the story of Hazel, a teenager with a thyroid cancer. Despite the new
medicine, she knows her illness is terminal. She is resigned to live out her days in her hospital when
Augustus Waters walks into her life. Hazel and Audustus bond immediately. they two of them
become the highlights of each others days and become inseparable. However, they can't forget that
they have a limited amount of time together.
The Fault in our Stars is, simply put, cliche. It tells the story of two terminally ill teenagers who
inevitable fall in love. However, the book is well written and has won multiple awards. The Fault in
Our Stars, to its merit, is bold and insightful, and has paved the way for several other novels of
similar plots. I appreciated that the Fault in Our Stars kept the teenage romance realistic and did not
attempt to "age-up" the characters.
