Six People. One killer. Only five survive. In this thriller, a girl named Red goes on a senior trip with her friends - her best friend Maddy, Maddy’s brother Oliver, Oliver’s girlfriend Reyna, Arthur Moore, and Simon Yoo. It seems like the perfect summer until a course of events lead to the sudden break down of their RV. They soon realize that this is no accident, and that someone is out to get them. In this story, secrets are revealed with all kinds of twists and turns that leave one dead.
Five Survive is a wonderful thriller by Holly Jackson. I have read most of her books, and I thought this one was a huge hit. I will admit, it started out slow when introducing the characters and the conflicts, but it soon became a fast paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I thought the character development was great, and the details were astounding, especially when describing the setting and where Red and her friends were apropos to the killer. Jackson wrote Five Survive in such a way that made the readers feel like they were in the RV with Red, which made it even more of a nail biter. I do have to say that Five Survive does not entirely live up to the hype of Jackson’s other books, like the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series. However, it was still very well made and was a great standalone book to read. Overall, I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars for how fast paced and detailed it was.
