An RV trip over spring break with friends to the beach, what could possibly go wrong? Eighteen-year-old Red is on an RV trip with her friends, and everything is going pretty well until the group loses signal and gets lost trying to navigate to the campsite. With no means of getting help, they attempt to get out of the RV and figure things out. Just as they’re confident about getting back on the road, shots are fired at them and it’s clear that the gunman has an agenda and is after the friend group in particular. As the night goes on, secrets are uncovered, and some friends will go to deadly levels to figure out who can be trusted. Tensions start to rise and sooner or later the group has to figure out what or who exactly the gunman wants.

I thoroughly enjoyed Five Survive and it’s one of those books that remind me how good the mystery genre can be. The suspense was written well, and it kept me on my toes. I think this book shows what people are willing to do in desperate situations, not just the main character but also the friends who are alongside Red on the trip. It surprised me how well this theme was written in this fast-paced book which only takes place over a couple of hours. Character-wise, I enjoyed reading the friends but also Red in particular. She’s such an interesting character who I relate to in personality and how we both think. Overall, I would definitely recommend this book (especially if you are on a trip somewhere like I was) and would give it 5 stars.
