The Forever Man by Eoin Colfer is a captivating science fiction novel that follows the thrilling adventures of Riley, a young boy with the power to heal. Set in a dystopian world where dark forces called the Harvesters threaten humanity's existence, Riley finds himself hunted by these malevolent beings due to his unique abilities. Alongside his loyal friend, Chevie, a seasoned FBI agent from the future, Riley embarks on a perilous journey through time and dimensions to confront the Harvesters and save humanity. Containing action, suspense, and unexpected twists, the book connects these themes by friendship, sacrifice, and the powerful force of resilience and never giving up.
The most compelling aspect of the book was the unique mix of science fiction, fantasy, and dystopia. Eoin Colfer connected time-travel, otherworldly threats, and a post-apocalyptic setting which made the book that much more unique. The book isn’t one of the books where it corresponds to what year it was made, but is a book talking about the past, present and future. Overall, I was not disappointed with this book. The plot and character development were the best parts of the book. The pacing was also very accurate, and it exaggerated the harsh scenes. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys science fiction and dystopian novels. Especially those who enjoy action-packed adventures with some fantasy. If you're a fan of Eoin Colfer's previous works like the Artemis Fowl series, you will definitely enjoy this book. It will be one of those books that you can sit and discuss. You can reflect on this book and how it accurately connects to what is happening today. I give this book a 5 out of 5.
