Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein in the early 19th century, a story about a scientist named Victor Frankenstein who achieves his goal of creating life from corpses as a scientific experiment. While Victor was solely focused on the process of creation, he unintentionally ends up creating a monster. Victor’s deep immersion in his scientific endeavors blinded him from considering the ethical implications of his actions, and he spends the rest of his few years alive trying to stop the Creature from creating havoc. However, Victor fails to do so and witnesses many individuals around him face the horrible consequences.
This was a great classic novel. Mary Shelley does a great job of displaying themes through foreshadowing of devastating events, underlining the role of nature, creating impact with a frame narrative structure and showcasing the unbalanced relationship between Victor and the Creature. Readers can follow clear character development of Victor as he realizes the harms of excessive ambition and the Creature in seeking revenge for being neglected by Victor. It was also intriguing to read about the important role of nature and how nature changed based on the events occurring throughout the novel. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys reading classic literature. I give this book a four out of five stars
