When Nick Dunne wakes up on the morning of his wedding anniversary, he finds that his wife Amy has suddenly disappeared. As it is with missing spouse cases, Nick is the police force’s first suspect. Nick swears that it isn’t true, but there are strange searches on his computer, testimonies from Amy’s friends, and, above all, a secret affair that Nick tried his best to hide. As Nick’s relationship with Amy slowly begins to unravel throughout the novel, there still remains the dominating question: What happened to Amy Dunne?

Maybe I’m on a streak of terrible book reads, because Gone Girl definitely was one. I don’t see why other people liked this book because I just thought it was annoying. I mean, every time Amy is mentioned, there is just the simple air of “I’m so perfect! Everybody thinks I’m perfect! I manipulated my husband into staying with me!” but that’s not to say that Nick is perfect either. I mean, he was having an AFFAIR. Everyone skims over that detail because he’s hot or whatever, but he was having an affair?! Both Nick and Amy were psychotic people that should not have stayed married after… a certain chapter in the book that I will not discuss because of spoilers! I’m just furious for several reasons and one of them might be the fact that Nick’s sister’s name is Go. What? Are you serious? Her name is GO? It’s short for Margot or whatever but that’s the stupidest nickname I’ve seen so far. Gillian Flynn constantly adds unnecessary details (like the name Go) that distract from the plot and lead me to hate the novel even more. Thanks for the one star read Mrs. Flynn.
